Citizens for a Better Santa Clarita Valley

September 10, 2008

You can put lipstick on Laurie Ender and she is still not Sarah Palin!!!

When growing up we learn in Sunday school or by good parents, to avoid evil, you need to avoid the appearance of evil. Just the same, if you want to avoid socially unethical behavior you need to also avoid the appearance of unethical behavior

It appears new politicians need to gain favor with a power broker in order to win a council seat. But does one have too? When one lacks the true character and ingenuity to win a council seat on their own ideas and public appeal, then you need to align with a sacred cow, Like G&L Realty, to make up the difference.

SOME (not all) political action committees are nothing more then money laundering loop holes hidden behind names like, “Citizens for Integrity in Government”, that funnel $money$ from highly controversial sources who need elected council members bias on their side.

G&L funneled $30,000 to you Mrs. Ender witch is shameful and dishonest to the trust the public expects of you as a citizens first candidate.

There is a wide range of decisions a candidate can make that may not technically violate a law, However, there are ethical social boundaries that the public uses to determine the elegance of a candidate to the people first, over controversial special interests.

When you take $30,000 from G&L, through a PAC, who is the most controversial developer we've had in years, with a current issue before the council, it's undeniable to everyone that they were buying a future vote for their project.

Did G&L, have the boy scout enthusiasm of being Trustworthy, Loyal, helpful, friendly, Courteous, and kind by jumping into the political process in a random southern California council race because it's a hobby of theirs? Did they find you the most engaging and endearing candidate running? Or, did they see a purchase they needed to make? G&L knew they had you in their Shopping cart, all they needed to do was ring you up! What a deal- A blue light special- $30,000 for a yes partner. Did the people know they were electing a special interest insurance policy?

To refute this saying you had zero knowledge of this expenditure is highly unlikely if not impossible. Not to mention it would be an incredible admission of insufficient unelectable leadership that 60% of the money used to elect you was without your knowledge or approval. (Well, G&L and Frank Ferry's $12,000 illegal contribution) Laurie, when you said, “ politics is all about perception” then why let G&L define your councilship with zero rebuttal on your part to them doing this? If I where you I would be ROYALLY PEEVED that I was purchased unknowingly!! But that didn't happen did it. Consequently I understand you are now an advocate for eliminating PAC contributions and would like to see the practice stop. How convenient for you now that you won with a PAC's help! That's unbelievable Laurie. Winning at all costs meant selling yourself to interests other then the citizens, by sinking below the ethical boundaries that violated the publics right to have your elegance to them first, not the highest bider . If the HMN/G&L deal was on the Up & Up – they would never have spent the money. They wouldn't need to.

To repair your new brand, WethePeopleSCV are requesting that you recuse yourself from the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital office building expansion Vote . WHY - It's about political integrity. It's about the people who expect you to be influenced by their ballot box vote, not special interest deposits. The only way to eliminate this conflict of interest is to step aside and show voters that this money was not a business as usual deal. I would feel personally, professionally, ethically, and morally responsible to step aside to show the public that I'm not a purchased candidate. Of course this is my moral compass. What is yours Mrs. Ender?

Hospital Campus expansion issue is heating up!!

A Press conference will be held tomorrow at     City Hall at 10:00 am regarding G&L's office building expansion development. All those interested in this issue should attend.

The HMNMH medical campus expansion issue is back on the front burner and will be in front of the City council very soon to decide whether they will go ahead with their plans to build 3 medical towers and multi level parking structures on the existing hospital property.

David Gauny, who leads the 1200 member citizen group named Smart Growth SCV wrote a brief response in a blog today outlining the latest sentiments over the issue.

David Gauny on Aug 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am

More specifically, our issue is that the city is closing the 45-day review period of the G&L project without holding a single hearing on the project. Only comments received during this review period MUST be answered in writing by the city and/or applicant.

As it stands, we must put all of our comments that we want responses to into the record without having heard any staff presentation on the new EIR, the changes they incorporated, or the reasons/justifications/studies to support them.

Most concerning is that the Conditional Use Permit under which this project has always been shoved, has been witrhdrawn, as the city now claims that the new (and previously undefined) “Master Plan” entitlement is adequate to strip zoning, blow out building heights, etc. We want to know how they justify that and what precedent it sets. For instance, can you now take any strip of land, anywhere in SCV, and put a Master Planned mall there, regardless of whether it’s zoned for that or not? That’s what they appear to be saying and we want –and deserve– an explanation. How can we comment without this understanding and why would they withhold this?

Note that this is yet another first for SCV planning: never have they closed the public comment period (don’t be confused by language - I am referring to the one that requires written response from thee city or applicant) on a project without at least one hearing and oral oral testimony. Is this increasingly controversial issue not worthy of such a basic obligation?

Instead, I’ve already received a written response from Pulskamp with his spin machine clearly in 5th gear:
“At [the Spetember 9th] meeting, the public will have an opportunity to provide their input to the City Council. Oral testimony will be considered by the City Council in their evaluation of the project and the EIR prior to taking formal action.”

Yes, Ken, they just don’t have to respond; just the way you like it. In his usual thin attempt to sound concerned, he then closes with: “Thank you for your continued involvement in this process.”

Yes, Ken, and thank you for thwarting it every step off the way. I encourage any and all to attend this hearing and step up to speak out about due process, failed planning, and bought elections. This is the time for “the process” to change.

July 10th - 7:00 pm - outside TGI Friday and Mall Food-court.

For those of you who are similarly concerned citizens about certain events in SCV we invite anyone, who would like, to join us Thursday evening at 7:00pm for a casual discussion about anything you feel strongly about regarding our valleys direction. We will meet outside

TGI Fridays & the Mall Food Court at 7:00 pm in the pedestrian seating area. We want to have a chance to meet like minded Claritans and will respectfully welcome those who aren't.

The first Thursday of each month we will meet in a public place where we can share, understand, plan, and explore ideas that will harness the power and creativity of We The people of SCV so we can positively effect our valley. We sincerely hope to meet everyone who wishes to come out.

Through rain, birthday, or shine!!!

It was Sterling King's birthday on the 24th and with a nice dinner waiting for him back at home he still showed up to city council. Why would one do such a thing? If I get an answer to that I will let you know.

Out of great interest and growing concern with the direction our valley is heading in the near future and the great desire on behalf of Santa Claritans to get involved in the community and political process, it was increasingly apparent that we needed an organization that could help our neighbors get involved.

WethepeopleSCV will be dedicated to service, educating, advocating, and influencing the vital decisions being made by our elected officials that will determine our future, neighborhood preservation, and quality of life.

Educating: We will work to compile all the relevant information on issues in a clear and precise way enabling you to grasp the issues in a comprehensive form. Through commentary, video, blogging, linking various citizen organizations and fire side chats with local, county and state leaders we will better inform ourselves with knowledge thus creating influence.

Advocating: We will look directly at the issues that will negatively impact our valley (Las Lomas, Newhall ranch etc.) and take a pro Santa Clarita, pro neighborhood approach and work to uphold those values.

Influencing: Instead of major power brokers and business carpetbaggers descending on Santa Clarita making the rules regarding our quality of life, we will stand before City Council, LA City Council, and LA Board of Supervisors to make the citizens voice heard.

Service: Through service to others we find the true spirit of who we are and what makes a community. We will look for opportunities throughout the valley where we can join together and give service to others as a way of contributing our strength and spirit to a cause in need. Most of all - Have fun.

This endeavor will not be easy and will take some time. However, we believe it will give an outlet for others to join together and learn, advocate, influence and serve others in a positive way.

Our site is growing a little each day. Keep checking back.
